How to Fake a Summer Ready Body

As an SPF addict, we were excited to hear how we can look younger, feel better and have healthier skin. To get the insider info, our friends at St. Ives have hooked us up with a Q&A with Dr. Marsha Gordon. She was named by New York Magazine as one of the city’s “Best Doctors” for the past 11 years (and more recently, “Best Beauty Docs”), Dr. Marsha Gordon is nationally recognized for her expertise on skincare, cosmetic dermatology and the prevention and detection of skin cancer.

Check out the interview:

I like to be as active as possible when the weather is nice, but the salt- water and sundry out my skin. What else, besides wearing sunscreen and cleansing, should I do to keep my skin healthy and hydrated?

Sticky summer weather can be rough on your skin. To keep dirt, sweat and oil clear of pores, I recommend using St. Ives Fresh Skin Invigorating Apricot Scrub: it leaves your face feeling fresh and clean. For the body, it’s important to continue moisturizing even in the summer to keep skin looking and feeling its best. I recommend using the St. Ives Collagen Elastin Advanced Body Moisturizer immediately after showering for optimal results.

I don’t want to hide in the air conditioning all summer, but the hot weather makes me sweat more and always leads to acne flare-ups. What can I do to stop these breakouts?

Increased perspiration combined with clogged pores can be a recipe for acne flare-ups. I recommend using St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Scrub and Cleanser to keep skin clear. They both contain Salicylic Acid to unclog pores and help reduce the redness common with acne flare-ups.

I’m healing from a little bit of sunburn on my shoulders and face. Is there anything I can do to help soothe the burn and heal my skin more quickly?

With a sunburn, your skin is more fragile than usual and will need extra pampering. Be gentle and do not scrub when washing sunburned skin.

Moisturize liberally with a soothing product like St. Ives Oatmeal and Shea Butter Advanced Body Moisturizer. Remember, your sunburned skin has been depleted of its anti-oxidants, so be sure to use a sunscreen to protect it from further sun exposure.

Thinking about bathing suit season and my cellulite makes me panic. How can I get firmer, smoother skin?

Bathing suit season can be scary! Even women in great shape often have cellulite and dimpling. I recommend using the St. Ives Skin Firming Advanced Body Moisturizer. Women who have used it report a reduction in the appearance of cellulite and improvement in skin elasticity, firmness and smoothness. Another idea is to wear a fashionable sarong. I have several and they help cover my trouble spots!
