When it comes to trends in the beauty industry, you might not realize how much you are influenced by celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal. Her services and glamorous makeup collection are always in high demanded at Fashion Shows and photo shoots around the world, but it is no coincidence she has become so successful - she worked hard to make her star shine so bright.
Like many of you, as a young girl Mally was just a beauty junkie living in upstate New York. We asked her to share some ancedotes about her incredible rise to the top, which we hope will inspire you on your own journey.
Miss Fake It ‘Til You Make It (MFITYMI): Who is your greatest career / beauty influence?
MALLY: My greatest career and beauty influence is my Mother, Dr. Pilar Roncal. Beautiful inside and out, my Mother always treated everyone like they were a superstar, and that is something I take with me everyday! At a young age, my parents instilled me with the philosophy that the things that make us different are the qualities that make us beautiful. It has become my mantra throughout my career.
MFITYMI: How did know to trust your instincts and pursue your dream job?
MALLY: It just felt right!! I had been working with this amazing fashion designer named Kalinka, and while I loved it, I didn't really realize what it meant to be passionate and excited about a job until the day came that we did the makeup test before a fashion show. When the hair and makeup crews rolled in, this electric feeling just came over me! Seeing everything come together--the clothes, the hair, the makeup--was so incredible! That's when I knew that I had to be in the makeup industry!
MFITYMI: What is the best perk of your job?
MALLY: The best perk of my job is being able to create products that I know people I know will love! Of course, it's amazing when a celebrity tells me or says in an interview that they are a fan of one of my products. But, it means the world to me to be able to go on Facebook and read everyone's comments and suggestions, and then really deliver products that women actually want! I can't tell you how incredible it feels to hear someone say "Mally, Thank You for making this product!" or "Finally, an eyeliner I can use with confidence!"...it's just the best!
MFITYMI: What career advice do you have for young girls trying to get ahead?
MALLY: I have always been a hard worker; it was just something that my parents had instilled in me from a very young age! I worked hard because it was the right thing to do, not because I was looking for extra praise or recognition. I wish I could tell my 22 year old self that it's ok to be like that!!! At that age, especially living in New York City, the thing to do is to go out and party and wake up at noon the next day...don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with having fun and going out and celebrating being young; I definitely still had fun when I was in my twenties! But, I wish I could go back and tell myself that there's also nothing wrong with being a hard worker and being dedicated to your job. It's what helped get me to where I am today!
MFITYMI: We can’t let you go without taking shop. Tell us, what is your beauty regimen to wind down the end of a long day?
MALLY: Before washing the face, gently remove all eye makeup (even stubborn waterproof mascara!) with VISINE Soothing Wipes ($9) . Store them in the fridge for an extra-cool, refreshing treat. These are also great on the go!
MFITYMI: We know you are an international jetsetter, so what are a few of your favorite beauty tips for guaranteed glamour on the go?

MFITYMI: Last but not least, when was a time you had to fake it ‘till you make it?
MALLY: Last spring, I was doing the makeup for my good friend Tracy Reese's show during Fashion Week. When we were doing the makeup test, I brought her everything but the kitchen sink! In my kit, I had a bunch of lab samples for a lip gloss I was making. None of the shades of lip gloss we had were exactly right, so we began mixing a bunch of them together. Finally, we found THE one!! Literally, as we were leaving the doors of Tracy's studio, I was on the phone with the lab, begging them to create the lip gloss mixture that Tracy wanted! Now, keep in mind, the show was less than a week away! Everyday before the show, I would wait by the door for that lip gloss! When it finally arrived, I almost couldn't look at it...there was no room for error, it HAD to be right! Luckily...it was PERFECT! Tracy LOVED it, and it looked amazing on the models!
