Why are Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Filing for Divorce?

We've all got the breaking news alert: Katie Holmes is divorcing Tom Cruise!  SHOCKING, we know, but why is this TomKat finally getting put down?  Could it be because the batteries died in her ankle monitoring prison bracelet? Or more realistically her marriage contract has expired?


This was the statement from People.com:

"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," says Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest." 

Cruise's rep tells PEOPLE: "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy." 

Well, whatever the reason, this gift is sure to fuel the tabloid flames for another few weeks.  Unless speaking of flaming, maybe Tom will finally come out of the closet.
