How do you know what are the best beauty products to buy...? TRY THEM!

For those of you who still don’t know, Birchbox is a customized beauty delivery service that sends monthly boxes stocked with new products from top beauty brands.  Then, buy with confidence knowing that these tried-and-true winners will work with your complexion.

For those who aren’t in NY during Fashion Week, the Birchbox Sample Stop is huge “candy shop” full of treats and beauty samples.  This pop-up shop boasts glam stations that offer hair, nail and makeup touch-ups by their best selling brands to keep frazzled fashionistas looking their best during this crazy week.

I stopped by the Birchbox Sample Stop on Saturday afternoon looking harried from a morning of traipsing through the tents.  I was greeted by a gregarious group sporting adorable Birchbox aprons.  The gals escorted me through the wall of samples (4) and discussed why each gem was selected for consideration.  The stacks of samples were interspersed with cylinders stocked with candy.

With my cosmetics consultant, I selected the following 5 goodies - plus a few extras because I just could make up my mind (1):
  • Amika Obliphica Nourishing Hair Mask – give stressed strands a makeover with this rich treatment.
  • Beautyblender, the original beautyblender – this makeup artist fave helps foundation melt into skin seamlessly.
  • Cargo Lash Activator Mascara – a volumizing formula that also has ingredients to fortify lashes.
  • Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15 – this beloved balm gives lips a rosy flush of color.
  • Jouer Matte Moisture Tint in Nude – keep skin flawless and shine-free with this lightweight matte formula.
  • Keihl’s Crème De Corps – this longtime bestseller keeps skin smooth and supple.
  • Color Club Birchbox Custom Colors – on-trend shades inspired by New York Fashion Week.

Then we went to wrap my selection – I swear, never has so much love and attention gone into a package.  I watched my wrapper cut, measure, maneuver, and tie my box with a bow for the ultimate creation sensation.

Next, I sat down at an Oscar Blandi styling station.  Sure I knew my dirty hair could use a lift, but I was unprepared for the instant makeover that ensued.  My stylist whipped out a tube of Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray which instantly boosted my volume and diminished all my existing oil for a fresh, clean canvas.  Next, she saturated my strands with Pronto Dry Styling Heat Protect Spray to keep them protected from the imminent curling iron.  She coiled my coif and locked in the style with Oscar Blandi hair spray.  After my tresses were perfectly primped and I was ready to take on the afternoon shows…

…but first, when did those massive under eye bags reemerge?  Gulp, time to hit up the Cargo Cosmetics counter.  We started with CARGO Jet Lag, a full coverage concealer that  works on-the-spot to brighten the eye area.  Next, I was coated with Blu Ray Pressed Powder, which created a flawless and airbrushed finish that looked completely invisible.  Afterward, my gal dusted on some blush and finished up my eyes for a dazzling look that could have rivaled any runway model.

Lastly, I sauntered up to the Color Club nail bar and picked my polish: put a pin in it.  The color looked shimmery in the bottle, but had the finished effect of a fun foil process.  A fast and fancy fix that works in seconds.

Before I left, I stopped by the survival bar (5) to stock up on some Cynthia Rowley Band-aids, Twistbands and Orbit gum.  These essentials came in exceptionally handy about five minutes later when I couldn’t hail a cab and had to walk 40 blocks in 5 inch heels.

Although this Birchbox Sample Stop is only around another few days, the feeling of glamorous excitement can be yours each month by signing up to receive deluxe samples from the best brands for only $10/month.

I got to stock up on samples and sweets, but one thing I missed was the visit from Kat McPhee.  She came by the Birchbox Sample Stop this weekend and loaded up on free beauty goodies and lots of candy. She sampled everything, got a makeup touch up and brought home bags and bags of gumballs for hubby, Nick - guess skinny celebs like sugar too!
