How to Become Your Own Celebrity Makeup Artist

During August, some celebrities sneak away to romantic yachts in St. Tropez, but not our girl Kristen Bell. We caught up with her on Saturday night at the 8th Annual Artivist Film Festival Closing Night Awards where she looked adorable and chic, but most of all, we were really obsessed with her makeup.

She achieved the perfect balance between effortless beauty (read: sitting on the couch, wearing sweatpants and eating Ben & Jerry’s out of the carton) and red carpet glamour (read: JLo any night of the week).

We would call KB’s look “Bits of Glitz” because it’s light, breezy and easy to duplicate at home. To help you out, we combed through our cosmetics kit and pulled together our recommendations to copy her look:

1. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Compact Makeup SPF 55 ($12 at Neutrogena.com)
Application Tip: Smooth all over face with applicator, starting from center of face going outwards. (Always check natural and fluorescent light to make sure you are completely blended.)

2. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye ($24 ItCosmetics.com)
Application Tip: Dab onto your ring finger and gently tap below the eye to apply the concealer and reduce puffiness. (Rubbing or pulling the delicate skin could cause irritation or wrinkles.)

3. Jouer Mineral Powder Blush ($24 at Jouer.com)
Application Tip: Use a blush brush to gently pick up color, dusting off excess before applying, from high cheek bones towards apples of cheeks.

4. CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara ($8 at CoverGirl.com)
Application Tip: Apply in upward strokes from root to tip. Coat both sides and use several coats for a more dramatic, evening look.

5. Lypsyl Lypmoisturizer Lip Balm ($3.50 at Drugstore.com)
Application Tip: Reapply every few hours to ensure lips are moisturized, smooth and supple.

6. Urban Decay Dew Me Moisturizing Makeup Setting Spray ($29 at Sephora.com)
Application Tip: Spray it holding bottle about six to eight inches from the face to cover the surface. Your makeup won't melt when it's hot or become dehydrated and cracked when it's cold and windy because Urban Decay’s Temperature Control Technology that actually lowers the makeup temperature to hold everything in place.
